A Message from Fr. Jay
Dear Friends,
The providence of God is promised in all the readings. One who trusts His providence will always cherish joy and grace! In the second reading, St. Paul boasts about himself not as a Jew but as a Christian. He was not concerned about the suffering that may endanger him.
Jesus calls us to be like the lambs sent among wolves. It may sound silly and cruel, but we need to remember we have some precedence in the past. The little lamb David, not only walked among wolves but had the courage to strike down the giant wolf, Goliath.
Jesus asks us to abstain from a money bag, sack, sandals and literally empty ourselves. Emptying oneself gives us power. In Indian history, Mahatma Gandhi was always humble but strong. He established values, freedom and human dignity throughout India. History tells us that not only does happiness lead to joy, but suffering does as well. Nothing is impossible for God and for the people who really believe in His providence!
The diocese will ordain three transitional deacons on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice, FL. One among them is Deacon Jacob Gwynn, who served St. John XXIII for a short period last summer, but he made a big influence in our hearts with his dedicated ministry. It would be a great honor to attend his ordination, followed by his Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, July 13 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Please see page 14 of the bulletin for more details. We hope Deacon Gwynn will preside at a Holy Mass at our parish in August. He is in our prayers as he answers his calling.
God Bless,
Fr. Jay Raju
