A Message from Fr. Jay
Dear Friends,
Most of us live amid many concerns, problems, and worries. If God appeared to us today and asked what we need in order to live well in this world, we might respond with a long list of needs. When God told Solomon, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you”, Solomon asked for wisdom. He saw wisdom as his Summum Bonum—the Highest Good.
For Jesus, the Summum Bonum of a disciple is the wisdom to seek the Kingdom of God. Our life as His disciples is a call to understand this Highest Good: The Kingdom of God. In the Gospel, Jesus explains the Kingdom of God through several parables. As we celebrate World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly this Sunday, let us recognize the many blessings and goodness our grandparents and elders have given us. Among all these gifts, the greatest is our faith.
Let us resolve to understand our own Summum Bonum and pass it on to the next generation. There lies the wisdom of Solomon. There lies the wisdom of Jesus. And there, too, our own wisdom is found. Please call your grandparents and the elders in your family or community today and remember to pray for them.
Next weekend, we will have hospitality after all Masses in the Parish Life Center for our Seminarian, Lam Vo, who has been with us for a full year. His presence among us has truly been a blessing from God. Let us continue to pray for him as he proceeds with his studies and formation, and may he soon become a servant of the Lord. Thank you for supporting him with your prayers and encouragement throughout this year. I may not be able to write to you next week, as I will be taking a five-day break and will be traveling. But I will be sure to be back before the weekend.
