A Message from Fr. Jay
Dear Friends,
The inner light of humility is the way to salvation.
During the Lenten season we reflect more deeply on three mountain experiences.
- Devil taking Jesus to a high mountain (Temptation story)
- Mount Tabor (Transfiguration)
- Mount Calvary (Crucifixion)
Jesus’ travel from mountain to mountain has an inner light of humility. Last week, in the temptation event, Jesus’ humility was challenged by the devil on the high mountain. This week on Mount Tabor, the Transfiguration takes place where Jesus shares His glory with the Apostles. He tells them not to divulge this revelation until His resurrection, and to practice humility (not wanting the vain glory of feeling VIP). Soon, His humility will culminate on Mount Calvary during Holy Week, where He accepts humiliation. For that reason, Jesus as the Son of God, had the experience of ‘transfiguration’. We, as human beings, can only have ‘transformation’ if we apply humility to our lives.
Even today, the history of salvation continues with the same sense of humility. We are especially called to transform our lives with the help of prayer, fasting and charity. Let us continue our journey on the mountains of humility.
God Bless,
Fr. Jay Raju
